ライヴ終了後、バーミンガムからロンドンに戻る途中でフェアポート・コンヴェンション / Fairport Convention が乗っていたバンが事故を起こす．
リチャード・トンプソン / Richard Thompson のガール・フレンドのジーニー・フランクリン / Jeannie Franklyn は即死、ドラマーのマーティン・ランブル / Martin Lamble は翌日死亡、アシュレイ・ハッチングズ / Ashley Hutchings が重傷を負い、リチャード・トンプソン / Richard Thompson も怪我をする．
サンディ・デニー / Sandy Denny はトレヴァー・ルーカス / Trevor Lucas がいるエクレクション / Eclection の方に乗っていて事故を免れている．

５月２５日にはマーティン・ランブル / Martin Lamble とフェアポート・コンヴェンション / Fairport Convention のための慈善コンサートが開かれる． 出演は、ザ・プリティ・シングス / The Pretty Things、リック・グレッチ / Rick Grech のいるファミリー / Family、エクレクション / Eclection、ブロッサム・トゥーズ / Blossom Toes、マーティン・カシー＆デイヴ・スウォーブリック / Marty Cathy & Dave Swarbrick、ザ・デヴィアンツ / The Deviants、ジョン＆ビヴァリー・マーティン / John & Beverley Martyn、ピンク・フロイド / Pink Floyd．

７月にマーティン・ランブル / Martin Lamble の遺作となる 『Fairport Convention : Unhalfbricking (LP/1969)』 がイギリスで発売される．

フェアポート・コンヴェンション / Fairport Convention が活動休止に追い込まれている間、サンディ・デニー / Sandy Denny はサイモン・ニコル / Simon Nicol とリチャード・トンプソン / Richard Thompson とともにアメリカに渡りコンサートを行う．

マーティン・ランブル / Martin Lamble の後任ドラマーにデイヴ・マタックス / Dave Mattacks を迎え、『Fairport Convention : Unhalfbricking (LP/1969)』 にゲストで参加したデイヴ・スウォーブリック / Dave Swarbrick も加わり、アイランド・レコード / Island Records が用意したハンプシャーの一軒家で３ヶ月を過ごす．

『Fairport Convention : Liege and Lief (LP/1969 → CD/1986 → CD⁺/2002)』

１０月には、フェアポート・コンヴェンション / Fairport Convention では第４作目、サンディ・デニー / Sandy Denny が参加してからでは第３作目となるＬＰの録音を開始する．

１９６９年秋の録音で、１９６９年１２月の発売．プロデューサーはジョー・ボイド / Joe Boyd．
このＬＰで、サンディ・デニー / Sandy Denny はギターもピアノも弾かずヴォーカルに専念している．
サンディ・デニー / Sandy Denny、リチャード・トンプソン / Richard Thompson、サイモン・ニコル / Simon Nicol、デイヴ・スウォーブリック / Dave Swarbrick、アシュレイ・ハッチングズ / Ashley Hutchings、デイヴ・マタックス / Dave Mattacks の６人がトラディッショナルを指向して製作したアルバムで、１曲ごとの出来栄えも素晴らしく、アルバムとしてもまとまっている．

ぼく自身としては 『Fairport Convention : What We Did On Our Holidays (LP/1969)』 がベスト盤だが、ほかのひとに推薦するときのベスト盤はこれ．
"The ballad of easy rider [Bob Dylan & Roger McGuinn]" だけは異色で、『Fairport Convention : Unhalfbricking (LP/1969)』 の録音での録音であれば、 当然のごとく収録されたであろうにと感じていたところ 『Fairport Convention : Unhalfbricking (LP/1969)』 の再々発売盤のほうにボーナス・トラックで収録された．

このアルバムをはじめて聞いたのは大阪難波元町の喫茶店 「ディラン」．
「ディラン」 でボブ・ディラン / Bob Dylan のアルバムが聴けるのは当たり前で、「フェアポート・コンヴェンション / Fairport Convention で、一番お勧めのアルバムを」 とお願いしたところ、かけてくれたのが 「リージ・アンド・リーフ / Liege and Lief」 だった．

２００７年からは、再々発売盤のほかに、ＢＢＣ、ライヴ、アウト・トラックを加えた２枚組 （『Fairport Convention : Liege and Lief Deluxe Edition (2CD/2007)』） も並行して発売されている．
